| “Know your audience” ought to be the watchword of every individual providing information about drugs because young people have become more tired than frightened by the barrage of scare tactics they have been hearing since they were children. Young people want and respond to credible information and resources. Whether at home or in schools, there are ways to honestly and effectively educate youth about the risks and consequences of drug use. Our task is to replace exaggeration and scarce tactics with balanced, science-based information. What young people need, rather than a stand-alone program, lecture or drug test, is drug education that will equip them for a lifetime of making health decisions involving a range of substances available to them. | |
