New Drug Education DVD Facilitates Open and Honest Discussion with Youth

The Safety First Project is proud to announce the availability of Just4Teens: Let’s Talk about Meth and Other Drugs, an innovative drug education DVD that serves as a tool for teachers, counselors, prevention specialists, and parents to initiate an open, honest discussion with young people about drugs and drug use.  Shaped by more than 70 teen focus groups participants as well as the young people on screen, Just4Teens is truly a video by and for youth.

The DVD includes a 15-minute video and a 14-page Facilitator’s Guide. The Facilitator’s Guide includes three separate modules for use with the video and for expanded follow-up studies of drugs, drug education and prevention relevant to youth today:

  • - Discussion questions are for use directly after viewing the video with students or youth groups.

  • - Related activities are suggestions for expanded class study and discussion about drugs, drug use, and what resources are available in your community. These activities cover many topic areas and can be the basis for an entire unit of study on drugs, including alcohol.

  • - Resources include a broad range of websites where students, teachers, prevention specialists, and parents can go for more information on drugs, drug education, and prevention.

The DVD also includes a bonus chapter featuring adult experts, such as Safety First’s Marsha Rosenbaum, discussing reality-based approaches drug prevention and education.

This educational DVD was produced through the support of a U.S. Department of Justice grant awarded to the New Mexico office of the Drug Policy Alliance, our parent organization. DPA New Mexico will be conducting train-the-trainer drug education workshops in 2008 and 2009 around the state. These hands-on trainings will assist educators and prevention specialists in learning how to use Just4Teens most effectively, and how to incorporate interactive drug prevention and education techniques into classroom and group settings. If you live in New Mexico, or know someone in the state who may be interested in a free training, please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
